Drunk Driving Suspected in I-5 Crash

Five people were injured late Monday, June 18, 2012, in a crash on Interstate 5 in South Seattle that closed most of the freeway for nearly five hours.

Four vehicles were involved, including a Mitsubishi Eclipse that ended up crushed beneath a semi-truck.

One person was subsequently arrested for investigation of DUI following the crash.

According to the Washington State Patrol, it was a chain reaction in the northbound lanes that eventually involved all four of the vehicles. Troopers have not yet said what exactly caused the wreck.

Troopers said it started when the Mitsubishi Eclipse collided with a Toyota Celica near Holgate Street, just south of Interstate 90, around 11:10 p.m.

The Mitsubishi then crashed into a Subaru Legacy, and eventually a semi-truck, before it came to rest under the truck.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 31-year-old Tukwila man, suffered a cut and a head injury. He was transported to Harborview Medical Center.

The four other injured victims were the driver and passengers of the Celica. One person in that vehicle suffered a broken hip. All were transported to Harborview.

The driver of the Subaru, a 28-year-old Spanaway woman, was arrested for investigation of DUI following the crash. She was booked into the King County Jail.
